Technology in crisis?

Inspite of the technology we have in our satellites that monitor and document of what's happening to our environment, the billion dollar worth of machine may not be able to help us now when nature drives us to the cliff with more disaster, because they also age just like humans they will fail to globally signal us from upcoming perils from heaven.

There would only be one simple technology that leave us then ... prayer.

Another wow! A shoe that changes patten.

This is possible, so why not a dress or a clothing that can change texture, color, design and pattern as you pass through a sunlight, or a dimlight, or when air breezes you by, or when a hip-hop song is played near you. I know this will soon come. My instinct and my prophetic sight will put this in motion.
clipped from www.popsci.com
In the May issue of Popular Science, we featured one such creation: a shoe that could change its pattern with the press of a button using an invisible power source. The idea was based off of a thumb drive Ozcanli had picked up; its display showed the available storage space remaining at all times, drawing power from the computer only to update the information but requiring none while the display remained static. Here are four more concepts––some, like the Transparent Toaster, similarly distant; others tantalizingly close––and the technologies that inspired them.

Every quarter these companies receive samples of new technology––a piece of paper that changes colors when exposed to odors, for instance––as well as applicable concept designs (one idea for the color-shifting paper was a milk carton that could visually display when the milk soured).

Invention never stops

New ideas, new things, new gadgets, new devices... never stops. We will see more and experience more, as knowledge grows and wisdom prospers. One of the major signs./
clipped from www.popsci.com
Discovering these technologies takes some legwork. At any given moment, Inventables' team of "technology hunters" is combing the Internet, parsing through tradeshows, and circling the globe in hopes of finding the next micro-suction tape. The team's head, Osman Ozcanli, whittles the thousand finds per quarter down to a workable number, and every week sits with a group of designers, students and Inventables employees to brainstorm applicable concepts. But in the end, what Inventables ends up selling is no more than a way to think outside of the box. "Each company already has its own advanced research team," explains Ozcanli. "We help them make sense of technologies they aren't able to consider." Unhemmed by specifics or even practicality, they create lavish innovations giving new life to some of the world's most creative, if underutilized, technologies.

OnLine Cartoon Comic Strips Making

  • Jul. 10th, 2007 at 6:45 AM
ferdinand, lordcenon, cenon
Not only it is fun, but inspirational, educational and wholesome entertainment that lets you put your ideas, creativity and imagination on it. With this technology of creating comic strips with cartoon characters online has become a passion of many, whether cartoonist or not and that included myself.

Example of my first online cartoon in few minutes And come to think of it, since the time of this writing from the date I joined Toondoo, and that's a week and a half I already made 30 cartoon comic strips. From which, I earned 4 additional acknowledgments where my strips got published in the Cartoon of the Day.

A comic strip does not necessarily mean as humorous, as it can also be inspirational. A cartoon strip can portray spiritual, moral, psychological or even satirical and political in nature. This depends on the strip creator's behaviour, line of thinking and his outlook in life. Or you can also be as resourceful as you can get by quoting other strips or newspaper editorials. Be expressive, share your feelings, your thoughts, your past, and your ideas.

IT is as simple as drag and drop. Select a cartoon character and drop it on a pane. Choose your background, your text, objects and other props. If you are not contented with them then go and create your own character.

Divide the pane to two or three, or simply use one long rectangle. Bring your characters on them and create a miniature story of either humorous, laughable or plain inspiration. You could just be political, religious or rebellious. Or you debate among other cartoonist with your own making. Attach a blog and join its forum.

What more? Make your creation a private, share it or publish it. Who knows, your story could end up the Editor's Pick of the day, just as mine. I earned two successive Editor's choice. The feeling is so overwhelming with joy for a non-professional artist like me and be selected.

Copy the url and even paste your cartoons on your web page. See how many you can make.

Bring out those hiding stars from the back of your head and earning public recognition and digital applause. Join me as I hit the 20 strips in just few days. Getting obsessed feels more inspired.

Follow this link
http://www.toondoo.com

and start making your spirit come alive.

I have evaluated another cartoon making, called Hyper Comics. They have a program installer which took me tedious time of installation and their online characters are not as attractive compared to Toondoo. I say if I will rate Tondoo from 1 to 10 and 10 as the highest mark, ToonDoo gets my fullest attention. The ease of use is tremendous, selections of backgrounds to text and uploading of external images are remarkably fast. Although the competitor has a wide array of clip arts, they cannot compensate for the "easy to use and fast to drag and drop" feature of Toondoo.

Dating Communities or Digital Whoring

DATING COMMUNITIES OR DIGITAL WHORING

While surfing to many popular sites for dating communities I got personally worried and alarmed by the increase use of these sites as a cover-up by many users for digital whoring.

You will find photos of girls selling themselves to viewers by posting their scantilly dressed or almost naked snapshots and inviting the male as their willing to be victims via webcam. They get paid via credit card by performing on cam live indecent exposures and sexual ceremonies.

The dating communities, may or may not know that this exist, but the presence of such issue harm the morale of teens looking for friends or those who in reality scout for real-time serious partners and soulmates by allowing these un-dignified money-hungry girls of different nationalities.

These are some of the 3 captured photos that straightforwardly signifies sex for sale intention via Internet's webcam's "do this, do that" for a dollar.

These dating communities, should come up with auto-scanning programs that detects photographs offensive in their site un-disclosed to younger eyes and branded as pornographic in content rather friendly in nature. Of course, they cannot be blamed blatantly but the hard to monitor profile of these women are taken as favorable advantage to them.

On-line communities should be more strict in imposing rules and guidelines. Local authorities of respective countries, if possible, should be alerted to immediately put these girls for standard violations and disobedient to moral policy.

A spider sort of program can be released periodically over posted messages that looks for offensive remarks and intelligent recognition of these photographs.

I also foresee possibility of a central Internet's administration via industry standard browsers that automatically place an insignia or brand at the upper left or right portion of the displaying website as having pornographic or "unsafe" content including those malware, adware or spyware infested pages.

Brand the site and leave the right to the surfer for skipping the site or allowing its content flow in to his local computer.

It is always a nice feeling to know that there are sites in the Internet offering FREE hosting for our files.

How do they profit? Google ads, pay-per-click (PPC), or advertisements paid by sponsors who selected them because of their page rank or site ranking.

Hosts giving out FREE services differ in many from features. For those who are interested, I am releasing this July 2007 edition which would be updated according to availability of updates.

ALL FREE HOSTING
for almost any types of files like for video, audio, and images. Looking for reliable and impressive features is not  easy. I have listed here only those that I have proven satisfactory, superbly acceptable and widely used; and I have tried them myself.

Free File Hosting Made Simple from MediaFire
  • 100% free
  • unlimited disk space
  • up to 100MB per file
  • no sign up required
  • link to files from your MySpace page, your blog, or forums
  • use folders to easily share groups of files or create galleies for all your images
  • no software to install
  • Keep frequently used files online for easy access from any computer with an internet connection

What you cannot do:
  • but no hotlinking as they said

"There is currently no way to link directly
(hotlink) to files on MediaFire because our service is 100% free and is
    advertising supported.

In Q3 2007, we will be launching a paid service that will let you link directly to files on MediaFire, so check back soon!"

  • don't upload copyrighted files that you don't own the rights or don't have permission from the owner to distribute

Free file hosting with SUPLOAD:

According to SUPLOAD, "Over 1 million files hosted, Supload.com is an easy to use free file hosting service. There is no need for registration, although it is available. Using Supload is as simple as clicking on your file and pressing the upload button. There are no bandwidth limitations on any of your files."

Further they posted, "free file hosting - upload and share images, music, audio, videos, or
any kind of files. utilize the navigation bar above to begin hosting your files. Once you have completed the process you will receive linking codes for your website, forum, any other place you would like to share the files with! great for MySpace, LiveJournal, eBay, Xanga, and anywhere you can post photos or videos!" And "
there is no maximum image file size, except they have options up to maximum image dimensions are 1600x3200." Then they also have this feature, "place your own uploader on your site and upload images directly to Supload.com."

Features for Uploading files:
  • images
  • video (maximum video file size - 20 MB; the following file types are accepted: .wmv, .mov, .qt, .mpg, .mpeg, .avi, .asx, .asf, .3gp)
  • audio (maximum audio file size - 20 MB, copyrighted audio is NOT permitted; do NOT upload files which you do not own the copyright to; this policy is strictly enforced, files will be removed and offenders will be banned without notice; the following file types are accepted:
    .wav, .midi, .mp2, .mp3, .ram, .wma, .m4a, .mp4)

  • files via email (
send files to a friend via email. all emailed files have a 7-day life span and 30 download per file limit; maximum file size - 200 MB, the following file types are accepted: all types except for web pages & scripts.)
  • watermark your images with your own image (I tried this but I cannot make this work. I did try sending them a message and no reply up to this time.)
  • Upload images from your cell phone to Supload.com instantly!

If your cell phone supports sending pictures via email you can host the images instantly on Supload.com. (I cannot simply test this, because my place of origin I believe is not covered by the MMS system connected to this site)
Another interesting feature is the code which you can embed in your website where the resultant is this (looks similar as the following):

With this you allow your users to upload images directly from your own website.

All you need to do is place the code below onto your site and users will be able to upload images directly to Supload. The form is completely customizable - you can change the form size, font, font
size, and font color to seamlessly blend the form into your site.

Once the file has been uploaded, SUPLoad displays a page showing the FORUM and HTML code ready for pasting. I tried this as I pasted the feature in my websites. Very cool then my users can upload and get their hotlinks immediately for pasting inside my Forum.

Now they have added an extention for Foxfox users that you may click on any image from any site and automatically upload it to SUPLOAD.

SUPLOAD is recommended for hosting your image, video, flash and audio files.

FREE hosting with AMD STREAMLOAD

This is almost fantastic, but I had problem using this when they got down for couple of days (during the time of this writing, July 2007) or so as they continuously post message for reasons of maintenance. Hope this comes back alive as they have fabulous features at hand.

It's 13th of July 2007, after MediaMax (Streamload) came back few days back, are still tryiing to recover from their server. If they can return the same features of streaming and hotlinking, then I would say by far they still have better than the others.

With AMD STREAMLOAD you can host files for public use and you can have hotlinking and stream audio and video files.

You can let users download files with your defined password and can be specific by IP address of the downloader.

I am recommending this, but just be cautious of uploading too many files. I think it would be better to keep other files in other hosts.

FREE hosting with FILE FACTORY

They have these to offer:

FileFactory lets you host files up to 300MB for free. You don't have to register and there is nothing to download. Your files can be downloaded an unlimited number of times!

Want to stream your MP3 files on another website? Sure! Our cool free music player lets you stream your audio files from any website such as MySpace, Bebo, a blog or any other website which you can edit. Simply select a folder containing your MP3 files and we will create a playlist of up to twenty songs! Check it out!

Free FileFactory folder widget!

Want to share your files on another website? No problem! We have developed a cool Flash widget which lets you embed your file listings into any website such as MySpace, Bebo, a blog or any other website which you can edit. Check it out!

I tried this. I was told to wait for 10 minutes before the playlist is generated and be able to play the music. While writing this blog, it's more than 3 hours and the playlist is not available yet. This is not a real-time streaming. Which means, if you really want to stream it you need their widget and wait for the playlist. How long is I can't tell at this moment.

Is FileFactory really free?

Still from their claim, "Yes! We developed this service because we discovered there was a need to store and send large files. We want to make sure that you are  happy with our service so you'll come back and use it again and again. So, how can we do this for free? We generate revenue from advertising. You can stream audio by creating a playlist and embed the code in your HTML page."

FREE hosting of files: video, images by Photobucket

URL: http://photobucket.com/

With their claimed 46 million users, Photobucket is impressively going on top.
Create your own slideshow and albums with astonishing effects, share your albums and one very entertaining feature is you can create your own avatar. The only annoying situation is while you upload, always a dating site opens up a new browser or tab. While uploading, to my experience 40 files I received 4 tabs opened to the same site (www.perfspot.com).

You get 1 GB of storage space and 10 GB monthly bandwidth. File
extensions allowed include .jpg .bmp .png .gif & .swf(flash files)

PhotoBucket now features free video hosting also for video clips up to 3 minutes long and up to 100 MB in size.

Hotlinks are provided with codes for forum and websites using HTML. The only file they don't have for hosting are audio files. Their remix of "effects (FX)" for albums are extraordinary. You can create as many albums as you want. There are mention on limits of files.

I recommend this very much.

FREE hosting by IMAGESHACK.US.

Another favorite free image hosting is ImageShack.
They have direct linking, no sign up needed and very reliable servers. They allow .tif, .tiff, .jpeg, .jpg, .gif, .png, .bmp and .swf(flash files), and video file types. A nice simple to use reliable service.

They have ready codes for websites and forum hotlinking your images and video files.

FREE file hosting by FILEFRONT

Their announcement is almost the same as the others.

I created my account and experimented the uploading and downloading features for several days. I tried uploading different types of files, from MP3, a zipped file, an image file, a document file and an EXE file. THe system automatically detected the file for integrity or whatever. IT doesn't want pirated files or pornographic. There is no mention for hotlinking. I checked the MP3 to stream and failed. Conclusion: I upload 4 files of different types totalling 26.12 MB disk space. There are download links but no hotlinking and no streaming.

I created my webpage with all the files I have uploaded

If you do not require streaming, for any types of files their offer of whooping large file size limit are impressively acceptable.

Free file hosting by RapidShare

Here is an article written evaluating the RapidShare feature to host files freely.

I personally sometimes use this because other people send me files and they store them in RapidShare.

Free file hosting by FREE-FILE-HOST

Try this yourself as I do not have a need if it doesn't have hotlinking or streaming.

Then let us know your views on this site.

A long list of FREE file hosts

It would take lots of efforts to test other sites considerably. Check the above link for other free file hosting.

Let's try help each others. I am putting up a poll and you vote your personally selected host.

Since this is a growing issue, I will release periodic updates on different reviews for FREE FILE HOSTING.

Email Spam

thinking?
Poll #xxxx Email Spam
Open to: all, results viewable to: all

Do you receive email spam?

always and everytime
seldom
i don't

How can I avoid spam in my email addresses?

That's one of the problems sent in by a user which is typical and common. To resolve this matter, do not publicly publish or announce your email addresses in  websites you visit.

Although for a fact, you are asked for your email address when accomplishing forms, and when you are in un-encrypted site, you are faced to a danger of having reveal your identity to phisers (persons engaged in phising), hackers or viruses that prowl around and copy your personal information.

If you keep on doing this you will always get spam in your email.

To cut down the chance of receiving spam messages, check your email provider, like Yahoo or Gmail to select the option offered to you by them to block incoming messages from sources you do not know. Basically, the Provider, throws suspected incoming messages to your BULK or SPAM folder.

The problem comes when one of your precious messages innocently brought to that folder (BULK). If that happens, simply MOVE or relocate the content to your INCOMING folder.

Another way to minimize, if not totally eliminate spam, is to create a small graphic image showing your email address. Paste it on your website. This way your users can visually read your address and no hotlink for any crawling spider that uses it to spam your mailbox.

If you have your personal tips from your actual experience, please share them to us. Let us fight spam in all manners possible we can imagine.

Try to experiment with known anti-spam programs. See which one is better from the others. We will have a separate issue here in finding the better utility against email spam.
